CB_Country and State Dropdown Fields Plugin
Installing ANGEK DESIGN's CB_Country and State Dropdown plugin
CB_Country and State Dropdown plugin is a Joomla 1.5.x, Joomla 1.7.x, CB 1.2.x to CB1.7.x plugin which installs like all other Community Builder plugins via Community Builder's Plugin Management Interface.
Once installed, 2 new field types (Country Dropdown and State Dropdown) are made available via Community Builder's Field Management Interface.
Please Note: If you add a Country dropdown to your registration page you MUST add the state dropdown as well otherwise the javascript responsible for populating the State dropdown field based on the selected Country will fail. Furthermore please ensure that the Country Field is ordered in such a way that it preceeds the State Field.
Once the fields have been added you may proceed by indicating the default Country that should initially apear in the Country Dropdown field parameters and the default State that should appear in the State Dropdown field parameters.
The values you enter into these fields should be as follows:
- Country: the 2 letter country abbreviated code (eg. US for United States, AU for Australia)
- State: the 2 letter state abbreviated code for states in the US, the 3 letter abbreviated code for states in Australia and for all other country states the full state name.
If you have any trouble with this part take a look at the 2 files located in components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_countryandstatefield/js/

the first column indicates the Country Code, the second column indicates the State code and the third column indicates the full State name.
Please Note: If a particular State cannot be found you may edit this file to include the missing State names but be sure to add all 3 columns and terminate each State with "|\"

You should now have a Country dropdown and a State dropdown field as part of your Community Registration process.
NB: In version 2 we have moved all the Country and State information into Joomla database tables and have added a 3rd dropdown for Cities. We have also added a Joomla component to easily manage these values. Testing of version 2 is now underway and hope to release it soon.

Where does the Country and State data come from?
The Country and State data has been compiled from MaxMind GeoLite products. More specifically the Country data comes from MaxMind Geolite Country product and the State information comes from MaxMind World Cities product.
If you find any omissions or errors please let us know and we are happy to further investigate but do keep in mind that not every Country has States but may have a providence or region instead. In these cases we have added the providence/region information as the states. If ths does not suit your needs please feel free to edit the states.js file contained in the js folder of the package. You are free to edit this file as you see fit just remember to observe the necessary formatting that has been used.
